Job Summary/Basic Function:

The College of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2018. Duties will include: teaching applied lessons in violin in jazz, popular, and alternative styles, using acoustic and electric/amplified instruments and effects; teaching classes in improvisation and string pedagogy for jazz/popular/alternative styles; directing an ensemble; maintaining a national profile as a violinist; recruiting and retaining highly qualified students; serving on divisional/college/university committees; and other duties as assigned by the Division and/or College. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

UNT is a tier-one research university with 12 colleges and schools offering 97 bachelor's, 82 master's and 35 doctoral degree programs. The College of Music of the University of North Texas offers one of the largest comprehensive music programs among American universities. Master's degree in music or related field required; documented experience and accomplishments as violinist in jazz, popular, and alternative styles; documented effectiveness in teaching violin and improvisation; sufficient foundation in classical violin technique and pedagogy to enable successful collaboration with the string area in the Division of Instrumental Studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in music desirable.
