The CAD Drafting Manager is a working leader of the CAD Drafting team located in Alpharetta, GA, responsible for the overall production, quality, and staffing of the CAD team by leading in a fast-paced, team environment while maintaining a high standard of excellence.

 

This position provides support to Product Development, Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Distributors, Installers and Architects in the design and drafting of building construction assemblies and components for custom suspended ceiling systems, from high level concept sketches to detailed Architectural specification drawings. Working from a customer order specification, the CAD Drafter converts the specification to a detailed drawing that can be used for manufacturing and installation in the field by the end customer. Experience with architectural details fabrication and assembly of typical building components required. 

 

Requirements:

  • 2D drafting of component level parts and sub-assemblies, including those generated from 3D solid models
  • 3D solid modeling with AutoCAD Inventor or similar program is a plus
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical elements and construction to support preparing technical specification of products
  • Familiarity with shop fabrication methods (sheet bending, welding, cutting, and typical fabrication operations)
  • Review specification/request and identify missing or additional information needed to complete the design project
  • Effectively interact with customers, customer service, sales and manufacturing personnel by phone, email and in person to gather information needed
  • Work directly with customers and manufacturing before, during and after assembly phase of projects, as needed
  • Deliver accurate drawings that meet or beat expected turn-around timing
  • Prepare printed drawings for manufacturing personnel
  • Prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Complete design projects and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
  • Demonstrate commitment to Safety, LEAN, Continuous Improvement and Teamwork
  • Responsible for the overall performance, quality, and staffing of the CAD team
  • Responsible for workflow management of the designs coming into the team.
  • Responsible for the design turnaround cycle time for the design department
  • Establish protocols to ensure quality, accuracy and delivery of drawings
  • Develop, implement and enforce CAD standards
  • Keep CAD team informed of changes, requirements and other relevant information affecting the design process and delivery of drawings
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff development
  • Interact and coordinate with other design disciplines to complete design tasks
  • Provide updates on CAD performance to management on regular basis
  • Collaborate with IT to improve software effectiveness and process for capturing, assigning and completing drawings and delivering plots
  • Make recommendations for process and technology improvements
  • Provide leadership and vision for CAD team and CAD capabilities that support business growth
  • Identify and address staffing resource needs
  • Talent management for members of the CAD team

 

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate degree or Certificate in Computer-Aided Design, Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience, a minimum
  • 5+ years of 2D design drafting using AutoCAD 2014
  • 3D solid modeling using AutoCAD Inventor preferred
  • 5 years’ experience with Architectural/Building Products
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Leadership skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Experience leading a CAD team, preferred

  • Reports to Global New Product Development Manager (located in Malvern, PA)
