Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Maintains responsibility for risk management/mitigation and patient safety programs at their respective Dignity Health facility. Directs programs involving risk mitigation/management and initiatives related to providing safer care to patients. Provides information to various key stakeholders on the progress and status of described programs/initiatives. Oversees the implementation of compliance policies and procedures to ensure that they meet Dignity Health's compliance requirements. Ensures the hospitals' overall compliance with regulations from The Joint Commission, Department of Health Services, CMS and other regulatory agencies. Oversee s the events reporting process, root cause analysis, and event investigation/review and participates in system office initiatives and programs to mitigate risks identified at other hospitals, resulting in reduced costs and adverse patient outcomes. Coordinates the requests from the claims team in the system office related to litigated claims and collaborates with other key stakeholders to implement learnings from claims. Coordinates all legal documents related to hospital liability, including the management of subpoenas, Summons and Complaints and other related activities..
  • Directors programs involving risk mitigation/management and initiatives related to providing safer care to patients. This position is responsible for providing information to various key stakeholders on the progress and status of described programs/initiatives.
  • Oversees the implementation of compliance policies and procedures to ensure that they meet organization's compliance requirements. Has management responsibility and accountability for the hospitals' overall compliance with regulations from The Joint Commission, Department of Health Services, CMS and other regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the events reporting process, root cause analysis, and event investigation/review. Participates in system office initiatives and programs to mitigate risks identified at other hospitals, resulting in reduced costs and adverse patient outcomes.
  • Receives and oversees responses to patient complaints and investigates to solve issues promptly. Acts as an intermediary between patients, staff and family to provide clear communication between all parties regarding any outstanding issues
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of and insight into all the pieces and parts that produce results and ability to utilize various methods and techniques to frame problems and situations from the perspective of their impact on the entire system; to make appropriate action plans and take the right risks.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify actual and potential hazards or loss exposures, and evaluate the risks according to processes and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop risk control plans and management programs to control losses at corporate and local levels.
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.


Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of risk management, patient safety, quality, compliance and/or other related professional experience and a minimum of five (5) years of experience managing/supervising employees and/or vendors.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
