Description

Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks a motivated Editorial Assistant to provide administrative support to two Sr. Editors. The Editorial Assistant will perform such tasks as answering unsolicited submissions; responding to agents and authors; arranging in-house meetings; reading submissions; fact-checking and clearing permissions for projects; mailing packages; completing paperwork needed for contracts and acquisitions; acting as editorial back-up on projects; assisting with sales points and assigning BISAC codes for titles; and taking notes at various meetings.

 

Candidates must possess a strong interest in children’s trade publishing; a motivation to learn; flexibility; a sense of humor; excellent English language skills (proofreading, spelling, grammar); and be extremely efficient and organized, attentive to details, and able to multi-task and prioritize. Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other common computer programs is also necessary. Interest or experience reliably sourcing material and facts is a plus. Candidates with editorial experience in a trade publishing environment are preferred. 

 

This is a full-time position based in our Somerville, MA office.
