SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for design and documentation of standard equipment and circuits for signal systems (switch machine control circuits, home networks, energy loops, relay racks) for interlockings, highway crossings, automatic signal locations, cut sections, and electric lock locations to ensure compliance with Federal and Amtrak’s standards and policies using MicroStation.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Must be capable of developing and documenting standards for signal design and construction
• Assist field personnel in handling problems encountered during signal maintenance and construction and is responsible to make revisions to standard plans to reflect as-in-service changes or modifications.
• Assists field personnel in performing quality control testing on signal systems.
• Ensures C&S standard design files database is current and properly maintained.


WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Must have Associates Degree in Engineering or significant experience in C&S construction/maintenance of railroad signal facilities or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Strong working knowledge of railroad signal circuit plan symbols, nomenclature, and circuit logic.
• Working knowledge of railroad circuit design as applied in signal systems.
• Knowledge of C&S equipment (relay racks, batteries, etc.).
• Knowledge of Amtrak’s interlocking layouts and physical characteristics.
• Knowledge of FRA standards, rules, and regulations.
• Knowledge of software system design concepts and processes.
• Must be qualified on NORAC, AMT-2, and RWP.
• Familiar with Computer Aided Drafting and Design Applications.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must communicate with field personnel and design staff to ensure accuracy of signal system standards on file.
• Assists field personnel in handling problems encountered during signal maintenance and construction, and communicates with various departments to develop and modify signal system standard plans


PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• significant experience in C&S construction/maintenance of railroad signal facilities and knowledge of railroad signal system design preferred.
• Extensive field knowledge of C&S construction and maintenance preferred.
• Experience using Bentley MicroStation Applications.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
