Position Specific Description

This position is in the Power Delivery Operations and Construction section of the corporate Environmental Services Department. This group supports the Florida Power & Light (FPL) Power Delivery business unit. The work location is FPL's Jupiter West offices, located in western Palm Beach County, Florida. The person in this position works closely with the Power Delivery Engineering & Technical Services department and the Central Maintenance & Construction department, and environmental consultants.

Primary accountabilities include managing environmental due diligence activities and construction compliance support for Power Delivery's brownfield and greenfield transmission, substation and distribution jobs. This position also supports environmental permitting, provides environmental technical support for Power Delivery operations and construction, and drives continuous improvement for his or her areas of accountability. The successful candidate for this position must have relevant project management experience, and must be able to manage numerous projects and a challenging workload. He or she must: remain knowledgeable on relevant state and federal environmental policies and regulation; communicate and work effectively with internal and external customers (including environmental agencies); work collaboratively to find solutions to issues, provide direction to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits, be able to work long hours in the event of a storm, and exhibit behaviors consistent with our corporate values. Job Overview

This job is responsible for obtaining approvals, licenses and permits for construction and operation of new and existing company facilities from federal, state, provincial, regional and local agencies. Employees in this job provide specialized environmental expertise and environmental technical support to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and permits.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews, assists with facility compliance audits, and conducts environmental licensing and permitting activities
• Supports environmental programs that provide specialized expertise to ensure cost effective environmental solutions that maximize operational flexibility, maximize environmental benefits for costs incurred, and contribute to improved system reliability and customer satisfaction
• Translates regulations and permits into actionable construction compliance tasks
• Obtains permit modifications for existing permits and obtains new permits for construction and maintenance activities
• Provides guidance on alternatives to minimize environmental impacts
• Identifies, tracks, and analyzes environmental construction compliance performance metrics
• Reviews, monitors, and comments on emerging legislation and regulations that might have an impact on operations
• Compiles input and data to develop company policy and comments and positions presented to regulators
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
