Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) has a job opportunity for an External Reporting Manager to be located in Lancaster, PA. The External Reporting Manager will be responsible for managing the preparation of our SEC filings, including the 10-K, and 10-Qs as well as researching and concluding on technical accounting items. Additionally, the External Reporting Manager will be responsible for owning the relationship with outside service providers to ensure correct tagging and filing of SEC documents; serve on Disclosure Committee


Key Responsibilities of the External Reporting Manager:

  • Serving as company expert on US GAAP; communicate to senior management and other impacted personnel through technical accounting memorandums and presentations
  • Leading efforts to implement new accounting standards (including new Lease standard in 2018)
  • Serving as main accounting liaison with outside actuary for defined benefit pension, post-retirement plan and post-employment plans; record necessary accounting entries and develop associated budgets and forecasts
  • Serving on Sarbanes Oxley Security Committee, which is responsible for identification and mitigation of internal control deficiencies caused by segregation of duties issues
  • Recording accounting entries related to annual cash incentive, long-term share-based incentive and deferred compensation plans; develop associated budgets and forecasts; own responsibility for third party software
  • Recording derivative accounting entries and perform annual derivatives process review
  • Publishing annual revenue recognition and segment memorandums
  • Serving as key contact for external auditor
  • Creating and file financial statements for employee benefit plans
  • Filing annual SEC Form SD documenting the Company’s conflict minerals process
  • Maintaining comprehensive worldwide accounting policy database
  • Participating in other projects as required

Required Qualifications for the External Reporting Manager:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA
  • 5+ years of financial reporting experience, including public accounting
  • Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC regulations, combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment and manage well through tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; must be capable of interacting comfortably & respectfully with all personnel levels
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills


Desired Qualifications for the External Reporting Manager:

  • Prior experience with XBRL and EDGAR
  • Knowledge of SAP general ledger and Hyperion
