Description

The intern will work in conjunction with the managing editor to coordinate myriad aspects of editorial planning and operations for the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Books for Young Readers Managing Editorial group. The intern will assist with setup and maintenance of title-related data in various databases, including TMM, online catalogs, and divisional databases; creation of payment vouchers and processing of invoices; creating reports; submitting manuscripts to the Library of Congress; reading blues, ozalids, and F&Gs; electronically entering manuscript corrections; coding manuscripts so they can be laid out in designed pages; coordinating materials for various divisional planning meetings; QAing ebooks; circulating copy, mechanicals, and proof to editorial and design; and assisting with the management of reprint corrections.

 

This individual will interact with many departments and should thus have an interest in all aspects of bookmaking, as well as the ability to interact with team members of all types. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, adept at multitasking, detail oriented, and able to complete projects on a tight schedule. Proofreading or copyediting skills a plus!

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
  • The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
