Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): As an IOX metrology intern in the IOX metrology group, this role will primarily be focused on assisting in metrology software development, testing and deployment. It will involve project commitments and frequent inter-organizational collaboration.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Assists in developing, testing and deploying optical metrology systems that are heavily used both within Corning Specialty Materials and outside to characterize glass stress. • Develops, tests, debugs hardware and/or software systems, components, tools and utilities required for the operation of developmental or mass production metrology systems. • Frequent inter-organizational contact and collaboration. • Provide customer support of existing systems and commercial equipment. • Work with other scientists and engineers within S&T.


Travel Requirements (please note if international): Less than 10%


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8-5 Flex Available


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration) Working to complete Bachelor's or Master’s degree or in optics, physics or related field.


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess) 1. Experience in testing characterization and quality control measurement systems. 2. Experience writing Excel macros 3. Good customer communication skills. 4. Ability to independently learned new skills to meet corporate and customer requirements. 5. Ability to problem solve 6. Track record of delivering results 7. Ability to work independently, in situations where information or understanding is lacking.


Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess) 1. Understanding of statistical methods / analysis of systems 2. System calibration and characterization 3. Ability to develop test plans and experiments 4. Experience around development of test requirements 5. Hands on experience with metrology equipment installation and support 6. Highly refined communications skills, both verbal and written Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership) Communications with all levels of multiple organizations is important. Customer interface skills are constantly put to use.
