Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Maintenance Supervisor/Planner in Pensacola, FL. Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner will be accountable for leading and managing the effective day-to-day activities of maintenance employees and contractors. The Maintenance Supervisor/Planner will play a key role in performance management, team and employee development, collaboration with production and technical resources, and continuous improvement. The Maintenance Supervisor/Planner will closely monitor maintenance performance related to safety, housekeeping, maintenance costs, work order completion, downtime, scrap, and throughput. This position is also responsible for maintenance planning and scheduling. Other required tasks include transitioning from reactive work to proactive activities and routinely reviewing maintenance strategies to drive continuous improvement of equipment reliability. 


Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner:

  • Leading an effective and efficient maintenance function to achieve operational performance objectives
  • Increasing plant reliability by the effective application of maintenance systems and processes
  • Leading the application of maintenance and engineering best practices and fundamentals throughout the facility
  • Developing and leading the application of Precision, Predictive, and Preventive Maintenance concepts in maintenance systems
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to increase maintenance effectiveness and reduce cost
  • Analyzing equipment history and cost information to drive process improvements, in order to positively impact operating results and lower maintenance costs
  • Understanding performance requirements of the plant and its impact on financial performance
  • Understanding and providing performance data for maintenance budgeting process
  • Applying Root Cause Failure Analysis to ensure proper solutions to maintenance issues are implemented
  • Understanding, executing, and complying with union contracts, wage and hour laws, discrimination laws, plant policies, safety best practices, and performance management practices
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling activities, including procurement and kitting of parts, work order management, and scheduling craftsmen
  • Work order management using the SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) module
  • Identifying special equipment requirements and safety precautions
  • Coordinating weekly and down day plans and schedules
  • Documenting bill of materials
  • Auditing work to ensure it is completed to standards defined in the job plan
  • Maintaining accurate work order backlog
  • Improving PM Master Job Plan quality in terms of content and measurable standards that ensure reliability and process capability
  • Following the defined maintenance business processes and the SAP PM system structure
  • Keeping records and SAP data accurate and orderly for high-quality histories and usefulness in data analysis
  • Meeting commitments for operating results and budgets
  • Coordinating activities of outside contractors and directly managing multiple contractors on scheduled shutdowns


Required Qualifications for the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner:

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of experience in maintenance planning
  • Proficiency with SAP PM, Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated ability in leading teams or process improvement projects


Desired Qualifications for the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner:

  • College degree
  • 3+ years of experience as an industrial craftsman
  • Basic understanding of predictive maintenance technologies, including vibrations analysis, acoustics, infrared and motor circuit analysis
  • Demonstrated ability in the application of preventive and predictive maintenance technology

Our Pensacola Plant, one of six Armstrong ceiling plants, employs approximately 280 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers worldwide.
