Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion to be located in Macon, GA. The Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion is responsible for the ownership of maintenance projects and resolution of problems of significant importance, scope, and complexity. The Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion will be responsible for activities including identifying issues, designing the approach for issue resolution, gathering data, effectively involving plant associates in problem solving, recommending and implementing action plans, following up on procedures, and administering controls.


Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • Developing and recommending improvements for maintenance methods and procedures
  • Preparing estimates of anticipated savings and cost/benefits analyses
  • Following through on details of savings and cost/benefit implementation
  • Executing Lean Manufacturing and maintenance by leading Rapid Improvement Events
  • Leading plant common cause process improvement teams
  • Continually expanding product and supplier partnerships and alliances to gain a sustainable competitive advantage
  • Conduct work design or redesign to optimize work tasks


Required Qualifications of the Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical or industrial) or 10+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of process improvement engineering experience
  • Proven ability to implement and audit systems to drive the utilization of technical and support systems to achieve manufacturing results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills


Desired Qualifications of the Maintenance Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • Lean Manufacturing experience or formalized Lean Practitioner training
  • Previous experience with the application of Six Sigma or Lean methodologies
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) and team facilitation experience
  • Experience with Minitab
  • Prior experience with maintenance reliability systems, including Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) or Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance technologies
  • Experience with SAP
