The MD of State Government Affairs will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will manage a 13-person State Affairs team.

This position is based in New York, NY.

Develop and implement a 50-state bipartisan legislative strategy and program to advance proactive legislation, while successfully fighting back against the gun lobby’s attempts to weaken state and local gun laws.

Manage a dynamic team of more than a dozen legislative advocacy experts to run bipartisan, multi-state legislative advocacy campaigns utilizing a full suite of tactics and strategies, including online/offline grassroots mobilization, managing lobbyists and consultants, guiding earned and paid media, and direct lobbying.

Coordinate closely with and offer strategic advice to other Everytown departments, including working hand-in-glove with our nationwide grassroots network of active volunteers and Chapter Leaders from Moms Demand Action, as well as our state electoral operation.

Help guide organizational policy, strategy, and political decision-making as a senior leader in a fast growing organization.

Track and analyze state legislative and regulatory action in the context of the current political climate to identify areas of concern or opportunity and develop, recommend, and implement strategies to further Everytown’s policy agenda.

Forge relationships with decision makers and other external stakeholders to advance Everytown’s advocacy agenda, including building trusted relationships with state legislators, coalition partners and political committees.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
