Job Description

The Hanover is seeking a Market Research Analyst to join our growing team at our Corporate Headquarters in Worcester, MA.

Position summary:

This individual is responsible for providing and supporting actions around competitive intelligence for products, processes and technology impacting the insurance industry and Hanover Insurance. With a focus on competitive intelligence by tracking the activities of the overall market, specific competitors and providing activity updates, threat and opportunity assessments. This role will be focused on market and competitor research directed at Business Innovation in conjunction with the Hanover 2021 strategy.

This is a Full-time, Exempt Position

Responsibilities:

- Researching and writing research briefs on emerging business innovations relevant to the P&C industry.
- Researching insurance products and services, including monitoring and evaluating competitors' products and services and industry best practices.
- Establish market-sensitive research agenda that relates to critical operational topics and functions
- Personally conduct vendor briefings, web surveys, and end-user interviews to collect primary market intelligence and build market credibility.
- Actively collaborate with teams that support Operations, Underwriting, Claims, IT and other departments within the company.
- Maintain a high level of overview in line of business functions, following technology changes and industry trends, including impacts to processes through innovation.
- Partner with internal clients to build and strengthen market understanding; provide business analysis by segment, product, procedure, etc
- Conduct market intelligence to identify market trends and opportunities and identify competitive advantages/threats.
- Assist in building long-term relationships with external organizations and end-user partners alike.
- Regularly collect and analyze market and competitor intelligence from a wide range of internal and external sources.

Position Requirements

Requirements:

- Bachelors degree preferred
- 3+ years of experience conducting market research and competitive intelligence
- Prior Property and Casualty insurance is preferred but not required.
- Excellent Verbal and Written Communication capabilities required, including storytelling, writing and presenting
- Ability to understand "the big picture"
- Strong willingness to learn

Comfortable operating in an ambiguous, “startup-like” environment

- Advanced computer proficiency in Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is necessary.
- Good understanding of different market research techniques/methodologies in data collection is desired.
