The experienced Medical Assistant delivers excellent customer service and strengthens the patient/clinician relationship through timely and informative interactions with the patients. Improves clinical operations and efficiencies by providing efficient flow of patients. Provides clinical and clerical support to the practice and clinicians related to patient care. Coordinates and schedules patients for tests, consultations, initial evaluations or other procedures. Obtains necessary authorizations. Ensures that all necessary documentation and preparatory activities have been completed and, if applicable, forwards necessary information to the provider prior to the patient's appointment as well as ensures that proper authorizations are in the record after visits have occurred. Utilizes a thorough knowledge base on a range of referral-related issues, keeping current on the policies and procedures of a multitude of current insurance payors. Researches referral and provider information as needed. Ensures all pre-visit work required for exam is completed and that lab and other test results are available in the electronic medical record (EMR). May provide direct clinical support to one or more assigned clinicians.

Education: High School graduate (or equivalent education, training or experience) required. Associate's degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred. A Bachelor's or other non-clinical degree combined with an interest in healthcare and excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, technology-literate skill sets can at times be substituted for medical assistant certification or work experience.

Skills and Experience: 2 years' experience in a clinical setting.(a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for experience). Able to communicate in a professional and appropriate manner. Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills required. Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients highly important. Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs. Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required. Ability to prioritize work throughout the day in a busy environment.
