This Other Personnel Services (OPS) Dental Assistant position is with the Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier) and assists the dentist chairside with both adults and children in a high volume primarily pediatric dental clinic. OPS employees do not fill established positions and their employment is considered temporary.  The incumbent is anticipated to work approximately 40 hours per week at the salary rate of $15.00 an hour.



A valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.  Fluency in English/Spanish is preferred. Must possess a FL Board of Dentistry certificate in radiology and expanded duties as outlined in the FL Dental Practice Act. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed. EMERGENCY DUTY:  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural. Certain immunizations such as an annual influenza vaccine and a TB assessment are required.



• Take and process digital intro-oral and panoramic radiographs on adults and children

• Applies topical fluoride as required under the supervision of the dentist

• Perform rubber cup polishing, sealant placement on permanent molars and other remediable tasks under the supervision of a  

  licensed dentist

• Obtain consent forms as needed, including having the patient or guardian update medical history 

• Operate computer system to enter patient information, monitor work email and enter time worked in People First

• Disinfects and sterilizes dental area according to OSHA guidelines and sets up and distributes instruments according to

  procedures to be performed

• Utilize ultrasonic cleaner, packaging of instruments, use of autoclave and Statum for proper sterilization according to OSHA


• Monitors and maintains inventory and supplies in assigned dental clinic

• Performs other duties as required



  • Knowledge of dental terminology 
  • Ability to use dental equipment required for the job
  • Certified in the State of Florida as a Dental Radiographer
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children 
  • Ability to work with diverse population
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment and use a telephone
  • Ability to interact professionally with other DOH staff and the public and provide excellent customer service 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the internet and computer systems such as Microsoft  Office, and entering data into a database
  • Ability to accurately document patient records
