The City of Denver's Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a Parks Facilities Superintendent to direct the operations of and lead a team of maintenance professionals involved in maintenance for facilities within Denver Parks & Recreation's facilities and amenities located citywide such as recreation centers, historical buildings, aquatics facilities, special event venues and other related structures. The Facilities Management team responsible for the upkeep of some of Denver's most valued assets.

About Our Job

The Parks Facilities Superintendent will supervise skilled trade supervisors and employees involved in maintenance of Denver Parks & Recreation's facilities. This position will have the opportunity to use leadership skills to direct operational efficiency through the design and implementation of long and short term planning, performance standards and effective processes. This position will ensure safe and high quality facilities for all to enjoy!

This position will be expected to exceed expectations in their job responsibilities that will encompass the following functional areas:

Financial Management:
  • Allocates resources within budgetary constraints and maximizes resources to ensure high achievement and efficiency
  • Monitors and ensures appropriate expenditures, demonstrates agility in modifying work priorities and navigating constraints as needed
  • Demonstrates accurate documentation and financial reconciliation to stay within agreed upon operating budget
  • Uses historical information to plan and forecast resource needs and identify opportunities for improvement
Operations Management:
  • Oversee diligent data collection and monitors key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement; develops, implements and modifies work methods and procedures to ensure timely delivery and execution
  • Ensures quality, effectiveness and efficiency of trades work; sets standards, develops work plans, improves work flows and ensures benchmarks are met and exceeded
  • Ensures strong partnerships to coordinate and implement projects; ensures effective communication and utilizes creative problem skills to keep projects on track
  • Develops and oversees maintenance and capital improvement project budgets and monitors work progress to ensure quality and timely completion within guidelines and requirements
Customer Service:
  • Fosters and maintains positive relationships with customers and citizens of the City & County of Denver; provides timely, responsive and effective communication to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrates a commitment to program, departmental and city goals and promotes an atmosphere of collaboration in those efforts
Leadership and Organizational Support:
  • Practices and promotes safe work behaviors and procedures to ensure compliance with national, state, city and departmental rules and standards; identifies and evaluates potential hazards and demonstrates proactive prevention initiatives and appropriate administrative responses
  • Ensures that employees maintain job specific certifications, receive proper training, equipment and resources to uphold safety standards and successfully promotes importance of workplace safety
  • Performs supervisory administrative functions in an accurate and timely manner; provides periodic performance feedback, resolves problems and mediates conflicts, and recruits talent as needed
  • Develops talent and promotes professional growth and development while promoting a team culture that ensures smooth business operation and employee satisfaction

About You

We are looking for a seasoned parks operations professional with substantial technical expertise and an aptitude for continuously improving operational efficiency and effectiveness. This position will require someone who is adept at resource maximization and creative problem solving. We expect the Park Facilities Superintendent to demonstrate strong leadership skills in maximizing the strengths of their team and promoting a culture of high achievement, accountability, customer service, professional growth and fun! Additionally, our ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Parks Administration, Parks and Recreation Management, Business Management, Construction Management or a directly related field
  • Experience working in and proficient technical knowledge of the following functional areas: HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, aquatics facilities, plumbing, ADA
  • Experience managing all aspects of parks facility operations within a medium to large municipal park organization
  • Experience with Enterprise Asset Management Software (e.g. Infor EAM)
  • Substantial experience and demonstrated ability in ADA compliance management and upkeep

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Four years of supervisory skilled trades experience in the maintenance, repair and construction of buildings and facilities
  • Education/Experience Equivalency:Additional appropriate education may be substituted for one year of the minimum experience requirement.
  • Licensure and/or Certification:Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application.

Hiring Range: $67,450.00 - $87,685.00 annually, may commensurate with experience/education
Assessments / Testing: This position does not require testing.
