About the Job

This Senior Platform Operations Engineer opening is for Akamai’s NOCC Tier 3’s second shift in Cambridge.

NOCC Tier 3 facilitates the fluid operation of Akamai’s production networks on a day to day basis. They are responsible for acting as the final point of escalation within the NOCC – handling the most complex, difficult, and interesting problems that arise. Tier 3 is also responsible for bridging the gaps between internal groups and the NOCC, requiring both deep technical skills and broad knowledge of operational process and best practice.

Direct experience working in and with a Network Operations Center is needed to be successful in this position.

This position is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and includes working weekend shifts.

About the Team

The Akamai NOCC team is responsible for the availability of Akamai’s deployed network. Tier 3 is a subteam devoted to solving the toughest technical challenges while implementing changes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. They work directly with the rest of the NOCC, serving as an immediate resource for their shift.

* Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
* Identify and implement process and efficiency improvements
* Improve tools, alerts, documentations, and procedures
* Maintain positive relationship across teams
* Teach and mentor peers

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
* 2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or
* Relevant experience and a Master’s degree or PhD or
* Relevant Professional Experience

* Minimum of 3 years Linux/UNIX networking experience
* Minimum of 3 years BGP and peering experience
* Minimum of 2 years experience in debugging and log analysis using scripting languages
* Minimum of 2 years experience with large-scale content distributed systems
* Minimum of 1 years experience in the Akamai NOCC

Desired Qualifications:

* Excellent mentorship and leadership skills
* Excellent communication skills, with experience in explaining complex technical content
* Meticulous attention to detail and care in their work
* Technically creative, able to learn, and a strong troubleshooter
* Highly self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work independently
