Scope of Position:

Corning is seeking an experienced process development engineer within the Science and Technology organization supporting Corning’s newly established Pharmaceutical Technologies division. Key responsibilities for this role focus on technical leadership of coating process development for new products, including scientifically based fundamental understanding and delivery of scalable technical solutions.

Day to Day Responsibilities: You will collaborate with project team members and subject matter experts to design and execute experiments solving complex problems. Critical to success is the development of new processes and establishing early stage coating technologies including product attributes, processes solutions, materials, and equipment. Autonomous and team based development and execution of experiment plans is expected. Daily work with team of technicians, engineers and scientists to drive to deep understanding, feasibility, and scale-up potential is also integral to this role.

  • New process technical leadership balanced with hands on development across coating technology and implementation, including coating application, surface preparation, and process characterization.
  • Ownership of the new product and process coating technology including coating deposition, surface preparation, thermal processes, and evaluation methods.
  • Delivery of product and process solutions based on the voice of the customer with partnerships across the Commercial, Product Engineering, Product Reliability, Samples Management, Research, Engineering, and Manufacturing organizations.

Travel Requirements: Minimal,

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hrs. per week, M-F, 8a-5p

Required Skills:

  • You will need to demonstrate technical leadership and the curiosity to drive deep to root cause understanding and foundational solutions.
  • Experience delivering solutions to complex problems based on theoretical analysis and structured problem solving methods.
  • Ability to develop, scale, and transfer technology across development, engineering, and manufacturing organizations while working in lab and pilot scale environments.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in product and process development and project management.
  • Knowledge and experience in coating application, fluid dynamics, glass attributes and processing or surface chemistry.
  • Exposure across development, engineering, and manufacturing environments.

Soft Skills:

  • You will be a collaborative leader and effective communicator in a variety of formal presentation settings across all levels of the organization, including one-on-one, small teams, and large groups.
  • An independent and rigorous thinker who requires minimal day-to-day supervision and can effectively manage change within a complex environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience in chemical, mechanical, or materials background
