Department Overview
WCAI seeks to inform, educate and enlighten our audience on both the news of the day and the news in historical context through in-depth, high quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft.
The Cape and Islands NPR Stations WCAI, WNAN and WZAI are WGBH's NPR Stations based in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. These radio stations broadcast news and information programs from NPR, PRI, the BBC as well as award winning locally produced content.
Position Overview
The Reporter/Announcer will be tasked with developing original reporting, responding to breaking news and monitoring ongoing stories for developments.

The Reporter/Announcer will report to the Managing Director of News and work closely with the Senior Producer of News.
Responsibilties include:
* Identify stories and generate, write and execute voicers, wraps and scripts for newscasts.
* Adapt to longer feature reporting when needed
* Gather, cut and edit audio
* React to breaking news and monitor ongoing stories for developments
* Write original stories for the web and assist with social media
* Occasionally fill-in as host
* Other tasks as needed

The candidate should be an exceptional writer, understand how to find and tell a good radio story, be proficient with digital media and work calmly under deadline pressure.
This person should have at least 5 years experience in radio, television or print reporting and understand the NPR style and demonstrate strong production experience and comfort with using adobe audition software. The candidate must have a strong understanding of journalism principles and have a proven ability to present balanced reporting.
Must be a self starter and able to work collaboratively with small staff.
