Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Safety Specialist to be located in Marietta, PA. Reporting to the Plant Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance relating to the Environmental, Health and Safety of the plant. Additionally, the Safety Specialist's role is to develop and implement the facility’s safety management systems. This includes hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning and project implementation, development of procedures, compliance auditing, and compliance reporting. The Safety Specialist will also be responsible for executing process improvement and cost reduction opportunities, and serve as the safety subject matter expert (SME) on the design, management, and execution of capital projects.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Safety Specialist:

  • Partnering with manufacturing leaders, facilitates the maintenance of safe, healthy and environmentally friendly working conditions through training & educating employees in the required safety procedures, such as PPE, ergonomics and/or environmental concerns such as waste, hazardous materials handling
  • Actively participating as a member of the Plant to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact safety, quality, cost, and/or productivity
  • Providing technical assistance to the facility on a proactive basis in terms of environmental, health and safety
  • Assisting in accident/incident investigation and case/situation management as needed, recommending corrective actions and managing to completion
  • Identifying & executing improvements in the plant’s environmental and safety systems and procedures
  • Leading, managing, and facilitating the completion of hazard identification and risk assessments for the facility
  • Planning mitigation of process safety risks and managing projects to implement mitigation plans
  • Ensuring that process safety related documentation for all identified hazards are developed and maintained.
  • Identifying safety training needs and providing that training through in-house resources or external consultancy
  • Safely executing capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance metrics
  • Transferring of technical knowledge where appropriate to other plant personnel to elevate organization understanding and performance
  • Ensuring compliance with facility environmental permit or environmental compliance requirements as assigned.
  • Serving as an on call site contact when needed
  • Less than 10% travel required

 

Required Qualifications for the Safety Specialist:

  • Bachelor degree in discipline related to functional work or role with up to 3 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience. Entry level candidates with required qualifications may be considered.
  • Project Management experience
  • Facilitations skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willing to work in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office programs

 

Desired Qualification for the Safety Specialist:

  • 5+ years working in a manufacturing environment.
