JD degree is required. Admittance to the Florida Bar is required.  

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Knowledge of Chapter 68, F.S., the Florida False Claims Act, Florida laws relating to investigation and prosecution of insurance fraud, and the criminal justice system.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience in the practice of law.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in one or more of the following positions: state or federal criminal prosecutor; public or private criminal defense attorney; law enforcement agency legal advisor; insurance defense attorney handling matters involving suspected fraud; or government or relator’s counsel in a state or federal quit tam action.

This position requires some travel.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle. 

Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application and any omission, falsification or misrepresentation in the answering of the qualifying questions will be cause for immediate elimination from the selection process.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong civil or criminal litigation skills. Knowledge of and experience in using the Florida Rules of Criminal or Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence. Strong legal research and writing skills and ability to produce well drafted complaints, motions, and other pleadings.

Provide sound legal counsel and guidance to department staff on civil and criminal procedure, and laws related to evidence; the Florida False Claims Act; civil forfeiture; insurance and public assistance fraud; and the misappropriation of state property or funds. Department staff will primarily include investigators and other employees in the Divisions of Investigative and Forensic Services and Public Assistance Fraud. Assist department staff in complying with federal and state constitutional, statutory, and administrative law during the conduct of investigations, and with the interpretation of investigative findings and structuring of cases for criminal prosecution, and civil and administrative actions. Cooperate with and provide assistance to Assistant State Attorneys, Assistant Statewide Prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other state and federal government agencies concerning criminal, civil, and administrative matters arising from investigations conducted by the Divisions of Investigations and Forensic Services and Public Assistance Fraud. Serve as lead or second-chair counsel in department civil and administrative actions, including forfeiture cases, in state and federal courts and administrative forums. Draft complaints, motions, and other legal pleadings, and prepare discovery for department civil and administrative actions. Draft memorandums of understanding, departmental policies and rules, and proposed legislation. Interpret new laws that affect operations of the department.  Present evidence and argument in state and federal courts and administrative forums.
