Scholastic is looking for an experienced Senior eCommerce Manager to join the team to drive rapid growth in our eCommerce channel. This role will be focused primarily on developing and executing strategies to drive online sales targeting our consumer audience that include SEO, onsite marketing, email marketing & promotions. The ideal candidate will have a retail background and the ability to be flexible and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

The Senior e-Commerce Manager oversees and manages all functions related to the planning, development and delivery of Scholastic's eCommerce storefront as well as all sales and marketing activities required to meet revenue targets.


  • Drive year over year growth for eCommerce division; while achieving both financial and non-financial objectives

  • Manage day-to-day operation of merchandising and marketing initiatives including site content updates, promotions setup, product activation process and site merchandising improvements

  • Ensure the accuracy of merchandising, product information, promotions and site banners on the production site at all times

  • Develop sound UX test hypotheses to improve customer experience and work with the cross functional teams to execute them as A/B tests.

  • Development of E-commerce Marketing Plan; including sales projections and performance metrics

  • Research, analyze, prioritize, and execute on-site initiatives, marketing campaigns and strategies to increase site traffic, incremental revenue, and new customer acquisition.

  • Lead and manage all aspects of direct-to-consumer ecommerce marketing in the areas of SEO, Paid Search, Email, Comparison Shopping Engines, Affiliates, 3rd party platforms, referring partners and social media.

  • Weekly reporting on site and campaign performance. Track key data metrics including conversion, sales, margin %, marketing income, overall site traffic.

  • Utilize customer and site visitor analytics to make data-driven decisions and derive insightful enhancement hypothesis that will optimize the shopping and navigation experience

  • Own and drive end-to-end development execution of marketing campaigns including communication cadence, audience segmentation, analysis and monitoring or marketing best practices

  • Leverage data to develop additional communication strategies around business rules, segmentation, triggered campaigns, etc

  • Develop A/B and multivariate tests to continuously optimize creative design and campaign performance

  • Actively manage contact list growth and health to ensure loyalty and engagement

  • Work collaboratively across Creative, Marketing, Engineering to ensure objectives and KPI's are achieved

  • Work with Merchandising for optimal product positioning, optimal internal search results, resulting in improved site conversion.

  • Consistently utilize A/B testing with quantifiable test objectives and actionable results across marketing and on-site merchandising efforts including emails, homepage, landing pages and product pages.

  • Analyze, optimize, and manage existing channels as well as develop/test new channels for future growth such as drop ship and market place.

  • Define best practices by setting measurable objectives; ensure tracking/reporting capabilities, evaluating/reporting campaign results, and creating P&L analysis.

  • Make recommendations to optimize web functionality, site architecture, user interface and navigation

  • Monitor competitive activity and react to online trends and best practices.
  • Initiate, establish and manage relationships with 3rd party service providers as needed for supplemental marketing programs


The candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a self-starter who is passionate about education and digital technology. He or she must be able to task manage and prioritize activities efficiently. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate expectations and timelines in a timely and clear fashion and have strong written communication skills. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and have leadership / management experience. The individual should have experience managing teams and influencing without direct authority. The role requires critical analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to establish strong working relationships with partners and stakeholders. The individual should be adept in telling stories through PowerPoint presentations (and any other visual aid tools that are helpful for communications and alignment).


  • 8+ years of ecommerce and digital experience - preferably consumer goods space.
  • Hands on experience from an e-commerce company with extensive experience in customer acquisition.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, and lead projects and processes across all organizational departments.
  • Strong understanding of marketing, e-commerce platforms (AEM and Demandware) and on-line sales generation.
  • High proficiency in Excel, and a general understanding of HTML.
  • Good understanding of usability, web analytics, and design.
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to build a consumer brand online.
  • Deep knowledge of SEO and SEM techniques and management. (CPA, CPS, CPC, PLA) campaigns; including CSE and affiliate programs.
  • Proven experience successfully building with loyalty and customer retention programs.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments with an entrepreneurial team spirit.
