About the Job
The Akamai Custom Government Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer who is interested in working on a critical piece of the Akamai content delivery system within the Public Sector. Specifically, you will have a rare and exciting opportunity to develop new functionality in the software behind the delivery of web content for large distributed systems. This is a great opportunity for an individual with experience in threaded software development, modern web and security technologies, and a desire to work on large scale distributed systems.
About the Team
The Custom Government team works with breadth and depth across Akamai’s technology stack to deliver a rich and wide set of customized solutions for our Public Sector customers. We collaborate, build, and operate world-class Enterprise Application Delivery Networks for the Public Sector and make them fast, reliable, and secure.


* Become familiar with the Akamai content delivery technology stack and integrate it into the Public Sector enterprise environment.
* Research, develop, and implement new functionality such as TLS intercept and AV scanning.
* Work with others in the Engineering, Operations, and Service Reliability teams to roll out and support new services and functionality.
* Help investigate and develop new opportunities on the platform.
* Interact and participate with the larger Akamai content delivery team and ecosystem.
* Potential opportunity to help develop and leverage new plug-in container capability.


Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, a related engineering field, or equivalent relevant experience.
* 3+ years software development experience with C/C++, and at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, or Shell scripting.
* 3+ years experience working in a Linux/UNIX environment, preferably with an emphasis on distributed systems.
Desired Qualifications

* Working knowledge of network and web related protocols (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, etc.)
* Experience with secure protocols like TLS or network security a big plus.
* Expertise with working on scalable multi-threaded server applications.
* Experience with database systems and complex SQL statements.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to effectively collaborate and engage others
* Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude.
