ROLE SUMMARY

 

The Senior Design Architect is a key team member who will work closely with the Design team lead to execute the project vision under a broad criteria which includes: User-centred design thinking, Next generation design trends, Current and emerging technologies, Stakeholder management and Marketing imperatives. The Senior Design Architect will be a strong self manager and will be responsible for delivering large project components, start to finish, collaboratively–in a diverse cross functional environment which includes Design (UX, IxD, UI, Digital, Print, Rich Media), Product management, Learning Design & Editorial, Content Engineering, Platform Engineering, QA, Project management and Finance. The position requires polished presentation skills and a confidence to communicate fluidly across locations with internal (HMH) and external (vendor) teams.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

User Centred Design:

•Collaborate in cross functional workshops in obtaining the overall project objectives, from a high level right through to detailed project component lists

•Provide design research results and data in a well articulated and presentable manner that is attuned to the stakeholder audience

•Produce rapid prototypes, mock ups and any other relevant visual output for quick review and iteration

•Problem solve for complex requirements in a fully collaborative environment

•Champion simplicity and elegance as a fundamental goal of good UX

Project execution

•Deliver cutting edge design excellence in area of specialty or a blend of areas (UX, IxD, UI, Print, Visual Creative, Branding, Rich Media)

•Demonstrate expertise in all relevant technologies as well as invest time and energy in adapting to new technologies that will benefit a cross functional team

•Communicate diligently on assignment progress, clearly articulating any impediments and/or risks to the successful outcome of the overall project

•Work to established deliverable standards and/or contribute to the establishment of such standards for the overall benefit of the project and Design department

Project completion

•Exercise ownership of assignments end-to-end

•Triage development/production stage of assignment and provide any necessary inputs to enable project completion to a high standard

•Demonstrate confidence in understanding workflows and production schedules

•Document clear and precise Design instructions for developers, external vendors, and QA groups

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

Education Level and or relevant experience

 •Bachelor’s Degree in Design or minimum 5 years full-time experience in Industry demonstrable in a well presented online portfolio (should convey a palpable passion for cutting edge Design excellence)

 

Knowledge and skills

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and SASS.
  • Expertise in creating clean UI elements using HTML and CSS. 
  • Expertise in all relevant current software, particularly, Sketch, Adobe CC suite (particularly Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • Expertise in creating clean pixel perfect UI design assets.
  • Ability to conceptualize flow patterns and create mockups for rapid prototyping.
  • Awareness of Design culture and visual and interactive trends as it impacts current and future technologies

 

Other desirable experience

  • Experience in Editorial Design
  • Experience in Educational Publishing
  • Prototyping experience
  • Experience in Agile

Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
