Who are we looking for?

We are actively seeking a Communications Coordinator who is passionate about integrated watershed management and climate resilience. This position will work collaboratively with staff members and external partners to develop and share diverse content that celebrates integrated floodplain management and collaborative watershed stewardship. The Communications Coordinator will help create a web-based “Flood Hub” that centralizes technical information and resources for primarily Tribal, local government, non-profit, and agency audiences in Washington State, and will also generate communications resources and support events and convenings for other Watershed Programs.

Primary Duties:

Floodplains by Design Communications and Network Engagement (75%):

  • Develop and upload content for the Floodplains by Design website, including playing a central role in building out a new “Flood Hub” online resource to share technical permitting information, resources and stories regarding local, regional, and Washington state-wide efforts to increase integrated flood resilience and ecosystem stewardship.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in ways that maintain respect and deference to local Tribal, agency, nonprofit, and community partners.
  • Support information-gathering and communications across diverse interests and perspectives.
  • Provide content review and work with subject matter experts to craft stories, summaries, and interviews, and lead development of quarterly newsletters.
  • Work with team members and contractors to create one-pagers and program information briefs.
  • Support delivery of meaningful and engaging in-person and virtual meetings and gatherings.
  • Help organize and convene meetings with diverse experts to advance integrated floodplain management project work.
  • Process and track project invoices and contracts.

 

Watersheds Program Communications (25%):

  • Support content development for quarterly treeline newsletter.
  • Create content with external partners that celebrates watershed stewardship and riparian efforts in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Advance equity centered communications and program materials that draw upon areas of existing or desired expertise, such as Tribal engagement trainings, BEF Trauma Informed Care for Environmental Professionals, climate resilience, and environmental justice related topics.
  • Support program updates to BEF Watersheds website.
  • Provide logistical and coordination support for workshops, events, site visits, and learning experiences.
  • Gather information from Watersheds team and partners to support grant proposals and grant reporting and invoicing.
  • Maintain social media presence.
  • Other duties as assigned.   

 

Qualifications:

  • This position requires five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience working in communications, outreach or program support for Tribes, agencies, nonprofits or the private sector.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and automobile liability coverage or access to an insured vehicle.
