Job Summary

Calibrate, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on electronic and electro-mechanical patient care medical equipment

Responsibilities*

Essential

  • Installs, inspects, repairs and calibrates and maintains biomedical equipment in-house and in the field
  • Ensures safe operation and effective performance of equipment per manufacture guidelines or guidelines developed by the department
  • Regular collaboration with manufacturer to solve technical problems with biomedical devices
  • Maintains written as well as electronic documentation in equipment specific records in accordance with all Joint Commission and MM, HCS, and WSS policies and standards
  • Provide equipment-related telephone support to staff and customers
  • Provide intermittent and monthly reports relating to equipment management
  • Communicates with purchasing staff on a daily basis to report repair part needs
  • Take part in ongoing repair facility training
  • Maintain a complete inventory of clear and legible up to date service manuals
  • Coordinate the scheduling of equipment maintenance and servicing in-home patient equipment maintenance
  • Contribute to process improvement endeavors in functional area(s) as determined by the supervisor
  • Monitor WSS equipment and facilities to ensure proper operation and maintenance
  • Attend and represent WSS at designated institutional activities
  • Contribute to the resolution of patient and customer concerns
  • Aid in the determination and maintenance of appropriate stock levels for equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all University of Michigan and departmental standards and expectations.
  • Supports the department's commitment to continuous improvement activities and lean health care principles through positive and respectful contribution in all problem-solving and change processes.
  • Participates in department committees and work teams as assigned inclusive of being a project or team lead. 
  • Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development and maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in-service classes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • 0-3 years of experience in area of specialization
  • Knowledge and ability to demonstrate use of basic hand tools, as well as ability or willingness to learn new tools and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge and experience of regulations affecting; safety, preventive maintenance procedures and repair/calibration techniques
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. without restriction.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  •  Manual dexterity to perform required activity proficiently and safely.
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time; greater than four hours
  • The employee will be able to perform the assigned duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 3+ years progressive knowledge of CRT equipment with ability to use tools and test equipment in this area
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Must comply with all Michigan Medicine Occupational Health requirements including annual flu immunization.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
