Responsibilities*

Responsible for oversight management of multiple sponsored and non-sponsored projects through their lifecycles for research focused on operative and non-operative treatments for shoulder pain and rotator cuff tears, as well as genetics research. General project management involves establishing professional relationships and communicating with key stakeholders regarding project requirements and objectives; assuring dissemination of information to enhance collaboration through all phases of the research process, from feasibility of new studies through termination; identifying project needs including resources, staff, and finances; identifying, reviewing, selecting, and negotiating with vendors, contractors, subcontractors and consultants; reviewing and monitoring project milestones, schedules, and deliverables; planning, scheduling, and coordinating project activities to meet deadlines; proposing, reviewing, and approving modifications to project plans, such as objectives, technologies, schedules, funding, and staffing; reporting project status, budget, resources, and technical issues; submitting project deliverables to sponsors, ensuring adherence to quality standards. Staff project management involves interviewing, hiring, firing, recommending promotions, establishing rates of pay, work hours, training, mentoring, and supervising research personnel. Financial project management involves assisting in fiscal oversight, developing effort estimates, controlling costs, improving efficiencies, monitoring research lab costs, identifying budget issues, and preparing and submitting budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports. Supervision of 3-4 full-time employees (Clinical Research Coordinators, Research Technicians, and/or students). Up to 50% remote work allowed.

Required Qualifications*

Requires Master's degree in Health Science or Clinical Research Administration + 2 years of academic project management experience: managing NIH-funded, industry-sponsored, investigator-initiated, multi-center, observational studies, and clinical trials; providing enrollment reports, demographics, and status updates for grants; submitting projects to central IRBs; developing and drafting budgets, providing budget justification for grants, invoicing for payments, and tracking ledgers and expense allocation; developing and managing REDCap databases; and overseeing and training research personnel.

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
