Senior Contracts Manager

Overview:

As part of a multi-discipline Legal Department, you will have an opportunity to be part of a dynamic Legal Team focused on providing client service-oriented support to Alkermes’ Research & Development, Commercial and G&A functions. The position may also provide support to other functions within Alkermes based on experience and need. This role plays a vital role in the contracting process within the company. To be successful, you will have previous experience working in a fast-paced legal or contract management environment; and drafting, reviewing and negotiating a high volume of contracts on various subjects and have excellent interpersonal skills. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be expected to: independently review, prepare and negotiate a high volume of a life sciences agreements of relative complexity, including master service agreements, statements of work, IT license and service agreements, data processing and data sharing agreements, clinical trial agreements, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, license agreements, termination notices, amendments, among others.

  • Collaborate and communicate closely and efficiently with internal business owners to advise them on the range of issues involved in the contract, to provide practical problem-solving advice and to educate clients on the potential business and legal risks that can arise throughout the life cycle of a contract.
  • Coordinate with internal functions such as Research & Development, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development/Operations, Data Analytics, Commercial Operations and Marketing, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, and IT, AI and Information Security to support compliance with internal approval procedures.
  • Support privacy related activities including review of privacy policies, DPAs and consents, in collaboration with internal counsel, as needed. 
  • Serve as Legal representative on cross-functional teams and committees to ensure alignment between the strategic imperatives of the Organization and Legal. 
  • Be agile in using a legal contract management system and serve as a system administrator. Experience with Agiloft is desirable. 
  • Serve as Legal representative on cross-functional teams and committees to ensure alignment between the strategic imperatives of the Organization and Legal. 
  • Identify and escalate issues and risks, current and potential, to internal counsel as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and prioritization skills needed to manage multiple, parallel contract projects at any given time.
  • Contribute to the development of processes, practices and templates to standardize and streamline the contracting process.
  • Oversee temporary resources allocated to the US Contracts Team. 
  • Engage collaboratively with Legal team members as needed.
  • Identify and escalate issues and risks, current and potential, to internal counsel as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

This role is open to candidates with and without a J.D.    Prior contracting experience in a fast-paced, high-volume in-house biotech/life sciences setting or academic medical center is strongly preferred.  A demonstrated ability to win the confidence of clients and to clearly explain complex legal matters to stakeholders is a must for this role.
