TSS Project Controls provides estimating, cost, scheduling, analytics, and reporting services for the wide range of projects managed and supported by the TSS organization.
Position Details
This position is responsible for the oversight of the Technical Shared Services (TSS) Project Controls Scheduling processes, standards, training, and management of scheduling tools. This role will provide technical direction and support to all TSS schedulers.
Key Job Responsibilities
- TSS P6 Technical Expert: Serves as the Primavera technical expert for TSS. This includes schedule development and maintenance, importing contractor schedules, setting up V3 accounts, managing standard layouts in Primavera to support consistent reporting, and being the subject matter expert for all Primavera related questions. Provide training to schedulers and other users.
- TSS P6 Database Management: Oversees the maintenance, management, and access requests of the TSS P6 databases. Works with the Technology Organization to plan outages and upgrades as well as coordinate testing.
- Process Management: Manages development and/or enhancement of processes, procedures, and software tools within group and, as applicable, interfaces between project control functions and external groups and customers. Integrates the schedule process more completely with other functions and processes both internal and external to TSS (e.g., project cost control/cash flow development, scheduling, design engineering tools and databases, supply chain/procurement, construction etc.).
- Strategic Planning: Proactively investigates shortcomings and unserved needs and prepares recommendations and business cases as appropriate. Assesses effectiveness of improvement initiatives post-implementation and plans corrective actions as appropriate. Communicates strategic plans to ensure understanding and shared vision.
- Special Projects & Support: Lead for scheduling for the EPPM (Enterprise Project Portfolio Management) / Unifier project during implementation and beyond. This role is responsible for leading scheduling efforts, supporting the Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) review process, performing peer reviews, and providing ad-hoc scheduling support across various business units, including TSS, the Operating Companies and Southern Power Company (SPC).
Job Requirements
Education
- College diploma or university degree in engineering, technical, or business field or minimum 7 years equivalent experience preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years working directly using Primavera P6 and experience as a P6 administrator.
- Knowledge of project scheduling techniques along with knowledge of project controls methods, procedures, and scheduling tools.
- Experience maintaining local and enterprise level tools and working with software support organizations in Southern Company is preferred.
- Experience performing scheduling on large EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) projects.
- Knowledge of construction and engineering productivity/earned value management preferred.
- Experience working directly in project controls/ project management/ construction management preferred.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Experience setting priorities, managing resources, and putting strategic objectives into place preferred.
