




POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for overseeing support and direction relative to controls development and engineering, whose scope of responsibility includes the management of development, test, deployment, operation, and maintenance of commercial and residential controls and software products (including tools) for Mitsubishi HVAC products and systems.
This position will oversee technologies that includes embedded firmware design, embedded hardware design, wired and wireless communication both between devices and from device to cloud, cloud back-end development, including managing both standard and custom APIs, web-based front-end presentation layer, and phone/device apps to interface to cloud servers. It also manages the development of configuration, deployment, and maintenance tools. These tools may be stand-alone or cloud-based applications.
This role will manage projects developed with resources outside of the department both within Mitsubishi (other divisions) and outside (contract development firms). This position's organization "owns" the overall architecture of the Mitsubishi HVAC control and data path from equipment (embedded) to customer presentation (web/app).
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serves as the liaison between engineering senior management and customer stakeholders relative to commercial and residential controls projects.
- Provides support in developing business cases for new product development, and in justifying possible development costs for same.
- Ensure that periodic cross-functional meetings are held with customers to ensure that project status is communicated frequently and transparently.
- Directs section heads for each of the technologies/activities reporting into the position.
- Directs the team responsible for the development and test of commercial and residential controls projects.
- Oversee software products and the team responsible for deployment and operations.
- Communicate with teams to develop budget and schedule estimates for new developments.
- Prepares and hosts project stage gate meetings in accordance with current development procedures.
- Collaborate with senior management to define technical feasibility, scope, impact, and needs for new developments.
- Provide support, with Advanced Technologies team, to identify technical risks for future projects.
- Supports Quality Assurance team to illustrate that standard development procedures have been properly followed.
- Oversee Quality Assurance team to assess production readiness based on comprehensiveness of test plans and actual test results.
- Drives technical support inquiries from factories and customers to resolution, as necessary.
- Create and review technical documentation, literature, and collateral. Technical documentation includes, but is not limited to design documentation, manuals, and engineering data.
- Ensures individual technologies are up to date for the applicable state of the in HVAC industry including identifying, reporting and managing technical debt, responsible for the development of emerging technologies for future use on new or existing products.
- Manages the creation and maintenance of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for all sections in the department overseen, as well as requirements documentation for internal and external customer requests.
- Lead and direct specialized teams, especially promoting cross-training and growth in domains of expertise.
- Manages department teams and individual performance to meet department goals and objectives.
- Develop team members in accordance with Mitsubishi HR policy, including succession planning for the department.
- Holds regular communication meetings with the department, direct staff, including but not limited to regularly scheduled staff meetings, department meetings, and O3 (On-On-One) meetings with direct reports.
- Travel domestic and international, up to 20%.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering or related field required, Masters preferred.
- 15+ years of software / hardware development experience in new product development.
- 10+ years of experience managing a controls / software / hardware development team.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, lead, and manage software / hardware technical teams.
- In depth experience with product management, including negotiating specifications and requirements, estimating schedules and budget.
- Experience in both Agile and Waterfall development procedures, as well as Stage-Gate product development. Experience in converting Waterfall processes to Agile a plus.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills; analytical approach to problem solving; team oriented, self-motivated; works hands-on; technology enthusiast.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $167,200 and $229,900/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including commissions based on achieving individual performance and/or sales metrics, incentive compensation and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
