Job Summary<\/h2>
Under direct supervision from a Registered Nurse or other designated supervision, provides direct patient care or miscellaneous technical support by performing delegated procedures of a specialized and technical nature, which may include obtaining hemodynamic measurements, setting-up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment and performing delegated clinical or laboratory procedures, changing dressings, assisting with admitting and discharge procedures. Assist with more complex procedures and perform complex diagnostic testing. Develop and recommend changes in patient care activities to improve the quality of patient care services. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are non-exempt. <\/p>
This position includes some clerical duties in order to support overflow spaces. Light clerical training is required and provided.<\/p>
Central Staffing Resource Department PCTA's will:<\/p>
- Staff all pediatric inpatient units (including ICU's) and overflow spaces<\/li>
- Be trained to staff adult inpatient units (including ICUs) and overflow spaces as needed<\/li>
- Participate in CSR PCTA Frequent Rounding Program<\/li>
- Staff as Video Monitor Tech<\/li>
- Staff as Patient Attendant<\/li>
- Perform modified clerical functions in the overflow areas along with usual PCTA duties<\/li><\/ul>

Responsibilities*<\/h2>
Observation\/Monitoring<\/strong><\/p>
- Obtains vital signs, temperature, height\/length, weight, oxygen saturation and pain scores; reports abnormal values to RN. Obtains other measurements (i.e., head circumference, abdominal girth) per unit standard. <\/li>
- Responds to monitor alarms.<\/li>
- Utilizes palpation\/auscultation and Doppler to determine heart rate and blood pressure.<\/li>
- Observes, monitors and reports the overt physical condition of assigned patient(s).<\/li>
- Responds to physiologic monitor alarms based on unit training and competencies. Alarms should be silenced or paused prior to an activity that will trigger an alarm such as bathing, drawing blood or getting a patient out of bed as delegated by RN. Ensures that alarms are ?on? when activity is completed and\/or before leaving the patient.<\/li>
- Measures and records intake and output.<\/li>
- Functions as a patient attendant.<\/li>
- Assists physician\/provider during diagnostic procedures; assists and supports patient before and during procedures; assists in specimen collection. <\/li>
- Applies and changes ECG electrodes and pulse ox probe; attaches patient to travel (ECG and A-line) monitor.<\/li>
- Places monitor strips on inpatient records.<\/li><\/ul>
Specimen Collection<\/strong><\/p>
- Performs point of care testing; maintains and calibrates equipment and supplies. <\/li>
- Collects blood specimens from arterial, CVP and PIC lines.<\/li>
- Collects specimens, including urine, stool, sputum and swabs, and performs urine determination including sugar, acetone, specific gravity protein, pH.<\/li>
- Performs finger\/heel stick blood collection and chemstick test. <\/li>
- Initiates, maintains and records 24-hour urine collection. <\/li>
- Transports blood and laboratory specimens.<\/li><\/ul>
Intravenous Lines<\/strong><\/p>
- Discontinues peripheral IV's.<\/li>
- Removes peripheral IV dressings.<\/li>
- Primes peripheral (without additives) and central\/pressure heparin set-ups (after bag spiked by RN); times and dates bag\/tubing per policy.<\/li><\/ul>
Patient ADLs<\/strong><\/p>
- Assists patients with, or administers routine personal hygiene including baths, oral care, skin care, umbilical cord and circumcision care.<\/li>
- Performs preventative skin care, pre-operative preps, perineal care.<\/li>
- Provides toileting\/bedpan\/urinal; remove\/empty foley catheters; weighs diapers. <\/li>
- Accompanies, escorts, ambulates, moves, turns, dangles, lifts, transports and attends\/holds\/positions patients. <\/li>
- Assists with range of motion; applies rehabilitation equipment; releases and applies devices, i.e. wheelchair seatbelt, adaptive equipment, etc., in accordance with specific instructions, to position patients to limit movements.<\/li>
- Provides patient nourishment by performing such duties as passing and collecting trays, providing snacks\/beverages, assists with ordering meals\/snacks; feeds patients.<\/li>
- Double check breast milk with RN.<\/li><\/ul>
Tube Feedings<\/strong><\/p>
- Perform tube feedings of patients, at the direction of the RN, and after the RN has established placement just prior to each tube feeding (e.g. Change tube feeding bag, prime line and set rate after notifying RN, refill tube feeding bag as indicated per infection control guidelines and after verifying correct tube feeding to be administered). <\/li><\/ul>
Urinary Catheters<\/strong><\/p>
- Performs intermittent sterile urinary catheterizations.<\/li>
- Performs clean urinary catheterizations (Pediatrics only-waiting for data).<\/li>
- Connects, drains and disconnects urinary catheters.<\/li>
- Assembles intermittent bladder irrigation supplies.<\/li>
- Discontinues urinary catheters.<\/li>
- Applies condom catheter.<\/li>
- Determines bladder status with Bladder Scanner.<\/li><\/ul>
Enemas\/Suppositories<\/strong><\/p>
- Administers cleansing enemas that do not contain medication. <\/li>
- Applies external Fecal Incontinence Device bags.<\/li><\/ul>
Wound Care<\/strong><\/p>
- Cleanses and redresses non-sterile wounds.<\/li>
- Performs simple sterile dressing changes, as in central line dressings.<\/li>
- Assists RN with complex dressing changes.<\/li>
- Cares for permanent drainage sites and apply appropriate collection device, i.e., ostomy, G-tube, etc.<\/li>
- Applies binders, ACE wraps, hot and cold applications; provides soaks and special baths.<\/li><\/ul>
Respiratory Care<\/strong><\/p>
- Assist with tracheostomy care on stable tracheotomies including such duties as cleaning and redressing area; assists with tape and tie changes.<\/li>
- Performs endotracheal\/tracheostomy tube suctioning after assessment by RN of patient stability.<\/li>
- Provides ventilation to the intubated\/trached patient with an Ambu bag.<\/li>
- Assists with Endotracheal tube care and tape changes. <\/li>
- Assists with P&PD by holding the patient. <\/li>
- Measures and records chest tube drainage; sets-up Pleurevac; checks Pleurevac water levels and notifies RN prn.<\/li>
- Coaches\/prompts patient to use incentive spirometer, and in coughing and deep breathing.<\/li>
- Performs routine nasal and\/or oral suctioning.<\/li><\/ul>
Other Interventions<\/strong><\/p>
- Measures and obtains TED hose; applies Sequential Compression Devices.<\/li>
- Performs post-mortem care and transports deceased patients to the morgue\/pathology.<\/li>
- Responds to call lights and alarms; answer unit telephone and relay messages prn.<\/li>
- Empties and measures drainage collection and emesis.<\/li>
- Assists RN with admissions, discharges, and transfers.<\/li>
- Provide skin care at the direction of the RN, applying select topical emollients containing medication (ie, cortisones, tar, silvidine, butt cream, and dermatology lotions).<\/li>
- Initiates emergency care utilizing the \"ABC's\" - Airway, Breathing, Circulation.<\/li>
- Transports materials, supplies, medications, specimens, patient belongings, equipment and medical records.<\/li>
- Performs patient care comfort-safety rounds per unit routine.<\/li>
- Assists with application and maintains restraints.<\/li>
- Documents care provided.<\/li>
- Performs 12-lead ECG.<\/li><\/ul>
Environment<\/strong><\/p>
- Stocks supplies and equipment in patient care spaces. <\/li>
- Sets up patient rooms for admission or procedure.<\/li>
- Makes up beds with linen, changes bed linens and linen hamper during patient stay.<\/li>
- Maintains orderliness of the patient room and unit, including equipment\/cords, linen, trash, patient belongings, etc.<\/li>
- Cleans and maintains inventory and outdates of equipment and supplies in patient care spaces. <\/li>
- Clean assigned equipment and areas of work. <\/li>
- Obtains, opens and arranges sterile instruments and supplies for specific procedures.<\/li>
- Clean, packs, sterilizes and stores instruments.<\/li>
- Checks emergency equipment.<\/li>
- Performs clerical duties prn.<\/li><\/ul>
Required Qualifications*<\/h2>
High School diploma, GED or equivalent, ability to read and write, and one of the following:<\/p>
- 6 months experience in skilled long-term facility\/acute care hospital OR<\/li>
- Enrolled in a nursing program and have completed fundamentals of nursing course OR<\/li>
- 1 year experience short-term care facility (i.e. rehab) OR<\/li>
- Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program<\/li>
- Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities which include moving, transporting and positioning patients and equipment as well as constantly positioning self to provide patient care and related duties. <\/li><\/ul>
Desired Qualifications*<\/h2>
Completion of a Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medical Assistant program; basic computer skills; course work in an Allied Health field. <\/p>

Job Summary<\/h2>
The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a part-time (50%) Research Area Specialist-Intermediate to work on up 2 different studies focusing on suicide prevention. One is a 4-year NIH-funded study examining the signs of suicidal risk which takes place at the adult inpatient psychiatric settings at Michigan Medicine's University Hospital. The other is a 5-year VA-funded longitudinal clinical trial which takes place at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. This study will use of an interventional smartphone app for Veterans who are experiencing a suicidal crisis.<\/p>
In this role, you will work in an exciting environment which provides support for professional growth activities, opportunities to connect and collaborate with other research teams within the University of Michigan and the VA. Notably, you will be doing work that has a real impact on people's lives.<\/p>

Responsibilities*<\/h2>
The Facilities Coordinator\/ Manager handles the coordination and management for several Michigan Engineering buildings. The exact number and size of facilities could vary, depending on facility\/occupant needs and facility location. The position reports through the CoE Facilities Management Office and requires regular communication and coordination with representatives of each group occupying space within assigned buildings.<\/p>
Facilities Support and Coordination<\/p>
- Submit work orders and coordinate maintenance and custodial needs for several buildings housing multiple academic departments and other college units<\/li>
- Coordinate with department representatives and other facilities staff for operational tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Access control - key requisitions, rekeying, card access<\/li>
- Signage<\/li>
- Moving coordination, including furniture and property surplus management<\/li>
- Services outages - planned and unplanned<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
- Complete daily classroom inspections\/ walkthroughs to ensure that they are outfitted with supplies (ie. markers, erasers, PPE, etc.)<\/li>
- Coordinate with College leadership and other facilities professionals at both the College and the University to ensure that consistent support is provided to building occupants and codes, standards, and best practices are commonly understood followed<\/li>
- Provide event support as needed<\/li><\/ul>
Relationship Building\/ Customer Service<\/p>
- Serve as the primary point of contact for units occupying a building to ensure that unit needs are met and communication is open and transparent<\/li>
- Build and maintain relationships with unit\/departmental staff and faculty to help anticipate and address various facility-related needs and facilitate open communication<\/li>
- Communicate and coordinate with the appropriate lab managers and other lab personnel to support building related issues or service interruptions<\/li><\/ul>
Safety and Incident Response<\/p>
- Assist with the coordination of Emergency Response Teams (ERT)<\/li>
- Coordinate with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and facilities safety team to ensure compliance with codes, compliance standards, and best practices<\/li>
- Serve as primary building safety coordinator for assigned buildings. Emergency coordination responsibilities may include responding outside of routine business hours, including evenings and weekends. Response could be via phone or in person, depending on incident needs<\/li>
- Coordinate with the FMO Safety Manager on all safety concerns and provide facilities support as needed<\/li><\/ul>
Space Management Support<\/p>
- Annual Space Survey - Support survey effort by assisting departmental leadership as directed (e.g., documenting room occupants, grant activity, room uses, completing data entry, etc.)<\/li>
- Partner with college and departmental staff, as needed, to help move forward space-related goals and initiatives<\/li><\/ul>
Other<\/p>
- Engage with other facilities personnel to collaborate and improve operations at Michigan Engineering. This may include participating in special projects and committees<\/li>
- Provide back-up coverage for the facilities team and receive other assignments as needed to support the overall mission of Michigan Engineering. This includes periodic support for facilities that are in other locations in the greater Ann Arbor region<\/li><\/ul>
Required Qualifications*<\/h2>
- Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years of demonstrated success in coordinating daily operations of complex facilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience<\/li>
- Proactive customer service and communication, the ability to successfully interact with a diverse set of building occupants<\/li>
- Training or direct experience in safety response and coordination<\/li>
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities that may include moving and transporting objects; assuming postures to access equipment, and manual dexterity movements<\/li><\/ul>
